Jean Ross
I work in all sorts of media including pastel, oil, watercolour, acrylic, encaustic wax, felt and mixed media. I moved to Cornwall 20 years ago because I love the clear light here which I incorporate into most of my paintings. I also enjoy making bags and jewellery. I have won many awards, most recently the national award organised by Gold Top for which I painted a Jersey cow. This first prize has been the start of a love affair with painting cows, calves and wildlife in general!
In the summer I can often be found on the many glorious beaches here in Cornwall painting and sketching the children playing on the sand, the surfers in the sea and the boats at St. Ives.
My main interest is in portraiture; it presents the greatest challenge! I have exhibited my portraits in The Mall Galleries in London and in The National Gallery in Edinburgh. I usually work to commission and paint all sizes of pictures from miniatures to murals. My paintings have been bought by celebrities and are in collections worldwide.

At present I am painting private commissions and teaching art on a voluntary basis to individuals and art groups. I am also in charge of the life drawing group at the St. Ives Arts Club and belong to the group of women artists “Taking Space”.
